A Key Ingredient

Kathy Birch

Veterans & Family Support

The Mid-Year Conference was a great celebration of the Department Presidents who attended their Night on the Town, representing their members and their accomplishments.  Many of you may not have been able to attend this conference; I am going to review what was promoted during the Veterans & Family Support Program presentation.

Every Program Director was asked to name the one most important “ingredient” that makes their program successful.  The “ingredient” I chose was continued financial support of our veterans, our active duty military, their families and the community programs that serve them.

The VFW National Military Services has received from the Ladies Auxiliary VFW members almost $250,000 as of January 31, 2013.  We have provided “Unwavering Support for Uncommon Heroes” TM through our fundraising activities, promotions and the many special events and programs.

Because of you, Buddy Poppies are everywhere!  Every time you place a Buddy Poppy on a Veteran, use a Buddy Poppy on a table or in a decoration, you promote our Veterans; displaying the symbol of the sacrifices made by our military heroes, past and present.

The VFW National Home for Children has been supported by so many of you this past year.  As of January 31, 2013, the Ladies Auxiliary VFW members have donated almost $115,000 to the Health & Happiness Fund.  Encourage those Ladies Auxiliaries who have not yet made their donation to do so as soon as possible.

The promotions from the Department Veterans & Family Support Chairmen list so many wonderful activities that you do every day in support of our Veterans.  Thank you for all you have done for our veterans, our active duty military personnel and their families.
